Music for the Soul
I’m all for relaxing to ambient music, like the moody and inspirational downloads at bliss that I’ve recently discovered. Nothing is better for a quiet meditation. That said, sometimes the best way to get out of your head and into your body is to go to a live show where the music just fills the air and you can feel it through every inch of your being.
A few nights ago I was fortunate to see Jason Mraz live, from the second row at Constitution Hall in DC. Like Dave Matthews, Mraz puts on a show that is absolutely authentic and in the moment - he sucks you in for every note, spins you around and before you know it you’re out of your seat and your voice has merged with the thousands around you. For a few hours there is no economy, no work, no worries, no thinking necessary. You can’t help but get out of your chair and participate. And that’s truly something - when you feel like you’re a part of the show and the entire crowd has helped make the experience, building an energy that’s palpable. It helps that he’s so immensely talented… if you’ve not heard him before, download one of his live performances versus a studio recording. Live is his element.
